Om Gurave Namaha
Dear All,
The month of Shravan is round the corner hence I would like to share some informantion regarding it.
The month of Shravan is the fifth month of the Hindu calender beginning from Chaitra, and is the most auspicious month of the Chaturmas. On Purnima or fullmoon day, or during the course of the month the star 'Shravan' rules the sky, hence the month is called Shravan. This month is spread out with innumerably religious festivals and ceremonies and almost all the days of this month are auspicious.
Shravan is considered the holiest month of the year. Each monday of this month, known as Shravana Somvar, is a special day in Shiva temples where the dharanatra hangs over the linga or the idol to bathe it with holy water, day and night. Devotees pile the linga high with Bel leaves and flowers and fast till sunset. The nandadeep (24 hour lamp) burns steadily in the temples.
IMPORTANCE :-
Some view it as the holiest month for Sri Shiva bhakti. Shravan Maas earns its name from the Shravan star who rules the astrologies during this month.
Sri Shiva - who is popularly worshipped as Mahadev, is one of five principal Gods in Hindu beliefs - the others being Sri Hari Vishnu, Sri Surya Narayan, Sri Durga Devi and Sri Ganeshji.
Sri Hari Vishnu's most divine month is that of Kartik, during the five day Deepawali celebrations.
It is often asserted that Sri Shiva saved the entire cosmos by consuming the vish (poison) that was derived out of the churning of the ocean, samudra manthan. Sri Shiva also took Chandra Devta crescent on his head to calm the effect of the poison. After the churning of the ocean by Devtas and demon kings, it is believed that 14 various types of rubies were derived and that 13 of these were evenly given to the demons, but the vish (poison or halahal) was spared.
No one devta or the demons were willing to consume or accept that strong poison - except Sri Shivji - who drank the jahar but kept the liquid in his throat - thus deriving his name: Nilkantha (Nil - meaning blue) and Kantha(throat).
Special Mondays :-
Devotees began offering the holy Ganga jal on Sri Shivaji this month to minimise the pain on him after he drank the vish. Milk and bel patram are popular offerings, especially on Mondays during Shravana.
Mondays in this month are particularly divine.
Commencing your solar somvaar (16 Mondays) vrat on anyone of the Shravan maas Mondays is highly recommended.
Whilst wearing rudraksh is highly desirable for Shivji devotees, it has a special prominence in this month.
Other days of Shravan Maas :-
Mondays are by far the most auspicious, however other days in the month also have their significance.
Tuesdays Devi Gauri or Parvathi or Durga, especially by women for good health of their family.
Wednesdays Lord Vishnu or his reincarnations like Sri Krishna and Sri Ram.
Thursdays Gayatri Devi, saraswati or your own Guruji.
Fridays Sri Laxmi and Tulsi Vrinda Devi.
Saturdays Shani Devta - particularly important for fighting ill-effects of Shani in regards to obstacles of wealth being derived in homes.
Sundays Worshipping of Lord Surya.
Sundays Worshipping
During this month Lord Shiva’s devotees should:
* Wear Rudraksh, and also use a Rudraksh mala for जप
* Offer Lord Shiva Bhibhuti and place some on your forehead
* Make offerings of Bael leaves, milk, yoghurt, ghee, honey and gur on Shiva Ling
* Recite Shiv Chalisa or Shiv Katha and Aarti
* Chant Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra
Festivals in Shravan मोंथ
During this month people practice many rules and regulations while praying and also fast. Shravan has a special importance as it ushers in a host of auspicious days and festivals like Naga Panchami , Raksha Bandhan , Rishi Panchami , Janmashashtami , Ajaiekadashi & Putraekadashi.
